Match Report

U11 'B' vs Wells 'B', 23rd July 2006

Cheddar 292 (128 for 6) beat Wells 224 (84 for 10) by 68 runs.
(Barrington scoring)

An opportunity for the inexperienced 8 and 9 year old players from Wells and Cheddar produced an enthusiastically fought contest. Thanks to Tom Pearce and Wells CC for setting up the fixture.

Cheddar captain Dom Mehlig, who gave strong vocal support to his team throughout, won the toss and chose to bat first. The team ran well between the wickets from the start, and after losing a few early wickets the team batted well to lose only two more in their innings. There was some impressive hitting from Robbie Wallis (14 no), Ben Harris (11 no) and Ross Paines (12 no) who each hit two boundaries to help the team to 128 off 20 overs.

When Wells came to bat they found the Cheddar bowlers more accurate and difficult to get away, and Cheddar conceded far fewer extras. Best bowling figures were achieved by Joe Scott-Hartley (5 wkts for 3 runs off his 2 overs) who was well supported by Ben Harris (2 for 6) and Daniel Harris (2 for 11). Cheddar's fielding was reliable, usually keeping Wells to 1 run, Jack Masters took two catches behind the stumps, but there was nothing to match Liam Hathway's spectacular slide and catch in the deep late in the game. Wells' last two partnerships batted well, but it was not enough and Cheddar finished victors by 68 runs.
