Match Report

1st XI vs Wembdon, 2nd July 2005

Wembdon 74 all out lost to Cheddar 77 for 2 by 8 wickets.

Cheddar got back to winning ways at Wembdon on Saturday with a comprehensive victory.
Cheddar won the toss and asked to field first on a damp wicket looking to make eary inroads into the home sides batting line up. The opening pair of Luke Parfitt and Terry Clake were making life very difficult for the batting pair but to their credit even though the going was slow they held on.
All the hard work was in vain though as Parfitt had Gitsham caught at backward square by the retreating Matt Loughlin. Bailey only made a brief appearence before he surcumbed to the bowling of Clark. Clark struck again having Palmer caught for 24 before it became the Dan Parfitt show, as he claimed the next four middle order wickets as Wembdon began to wilt under the pressure from a positive Cheddar fielding display. The Wembdon Captain remained defiant, but when Lparfitt found the edge of his bat with a rising delivery it was left to the Parfitt twins to finish off the innings, Dan claiming a five wicket haul and Luke three. The surprising fact from the innings is that all ten wickets were catches, but this may have been because of the bowlers inability to bowl straight!
It having taken Wembdon 35 overs to score their 74, the Cheddar batsman realised that they were going to have to dig in and push the singles on what was a slow outfield. The opening pair of Callow and MacRae did just that, and gradually ticked off the runs. Credit to the Webdon bowlers who continued to make life difficult and gave very little away but by the time Callow was out with the score on 71 the game was all but won. James Buttler had to give the skipper something to moan abut as he followed Callow back to the pavilion for 0, but Waite %no) and MacRae (45no) saw Cheddar to Victory.
